Game Process

A holistic approach for urban transformation of Muftu neighborhoods was the basis of the water game session to provide suggestions for a sustainable water management and evaluation of the impact of the Muftu River on this water management. The play session proceeded through the creation of a more resistant neighborhood in extreme rainfall and the transfer and storage of water stored during this period.

In the first stage, suggestions were made about what rainwater could be used for:

Watering parks, children's playground, refuge island of private gardens

Extinguishing the fire in the narrow streets where the fire brigade cannot enter

Meeting the gray water needs of public buildings in the area

Fountain waters

Cleaning of market areas

Water playgrounds (controlled swimming areas, integrated with the river edge)

Neighborhood Fountains

In the second stage, the game moves focused on the storing, control and methods of the impact of the Muftu River on stormwater management. The answers given in this direction are as follows:

a. Stations at strategic points within the neighborhood where the rainwater will be stored (incline the water to direct the stations)

Evaluation of the empty plots of land in Demirtaş, where rain water will be stored, at lower levels.

Blue roofing proposal on the flat roofs mapped on the game board

Flock for water flowing from the loose eaves

Underground warehouses, cistern

b. Infiltration areas

Infiltration areas that can be used as arid area in winter such as rain garden and pool area (municipal area to the east of the mound)

Open channel arrangement with road section (storm water storage channels)

Flooring material that can filter water instead of hard floor

c. Suggestions for Muftu River's contribution to water management involve following steps

Direction of rain water towards the river from the neighborhood to the river

In the places where the river is inclined (in areas with the danger of erosion), it should be ensured that the material used in this grading is filterable and this area should be used for recreational purposes depending on the height of the seasonal water. Car parking area alternating with the recreation areas can work together with this park.

Water flowing in direction of the stream; In this point, DSI claimed that the soil originated from the alluvium structure and the water went under the ground. Contrary to this, it was reported that habitat, evaporation and soil absorption capacity should be considered as a whole.

At the end of the session, it was decided to prepare an integrated stream rehabilitation section for the DSI, to discuss the evaluation of the eastern part of the Toroslar Municipality as a special project area and to work with DSİ at this point, and to prepare a map detailing the rain water lines and slope of MESKİ. Mapping short and long-term actions plan and determine the pilot area for implementation of recommendations and decisions; Mersin will gather the works and returns of the institutions before April.
